Cabin Crew to be Organized by Transport from February 1
A cooperation and demarcation agreement has been signed by Unionen and the Swedish Transport Workers' Union (Transport). Starting February 1, 2025, cabin crew will be organized by Transport.
The new agreement aims to resolve current and future demarcation issues in a formalized manner, clarifying the principles that apply when determining which union should organize which professional group. We want to avoid a situation where two unions organize the same professional groups and compete for members, which could ultimately dilute the members' conditions.
The working conditions and tasks of cabin crew differ from other professional categories organized by Unionen. In contrast, Transport organizes several professional categories with similar conditions. Keeping agreements with similar conditions together strengthens bargaining power against employers.
Transport is already a strong player in the aviation industry. Bringing another agreement area under Transport further increases the union's strength in aviation. This change also makes it easier to synchronize with other countries, strengthening international work and facilitating international cooperation, as it is more common for cabin crew to be organized by a workers' union.
