Now, this is yet another opportunity to be a trendsetter and enjoy the mark of excellence that a CBA actually means.
- Klarna is a leader in the tech industry in Sweden. Now, this is yet another opportunity to be a trendsetter and enjoy the mark of excellence that a CBA actually means, says Sen Kanner in an interview with Svenska Dagbladet.
An agreement would include a more reliable regulation on termination of employments, as well as safer and better outplacement service for affected employees.
- More than that, a CBA would also bring back trust and confidence between employees and employer as well as help solve some tricky issues around employment law.
Sen Kanner is backed up by Martin Linder, the President of Unionen:
- There is a lot of pressure to get a collective agreement sorted, from the members of Unionen at Klarna. Which of course is empowering for us in our drive for change and improvement. We now look forward to constructive negotiations with Klarna, he says in a press release from the same day.
We look forward to constructive negotiations with Klarna.
The collective agreement is the back bone of the Swedish Model and benefits since decennia employees as well as employers. The former get good and reliable conditions concerning issues like salary, employment, work hours and vacation as well as an increased safety in times of cuts and reorganizations. But most of all, the employees get impact and influence at work which leads to more trust and transparency and a better working environment. Read more about the Swedish Model and its benefits here.
- There is a lot to win for both parties with a CBA, concludes Sen Kanner.

Union's Congress 2023 declares: It is high time for tech to join the Swedish model

Unionen's Call to the Tech Sector: Embrace Collective Agreements!
Nine out of ten employees in the Swedish job market benefit from the security and stability provided by collective agreements. However, in the tech industry, many companies choose to remain outside the Swedish labor market model. It's high time for the tech sector to step up as responsible employers and uphold the Swedish model.
Collective agreements foster security and predictability for employees while granting them a say in their workplace. The Swedish labor market model establishes order and structure, with market players taking responsibility and shaping the rules through negotiations. This approach allows for industry-specific adaptation and flexibility, a far cry from state-mandated regulations.
Companies that eschew collective agreements are taking a significant risk. Employees demand secure conditions, stable pension plans, and opportunities for education and retraining. Becoming part of the Swedish model is a fundamental requirement for serious, long-term investments. In the highly competitive tech industry, firms without collective agreements also risk losing their attractiveness.
There are many examples of "new" sector companies embracing collective agreements, but numerous major tech companies have yet to do so.
Collective agreements are crucial, not only in the tech industry but in all sectors. They offer:
Influence. Collaboration benefits both companies and employees. Engagement flourishes with influence, leading to successful enterprises.
Stable and long-term conditions. Companies may offer favorable conditions even without collective agreements, but these can change without notice. Collective agreements enable businesses and employees to plan for the long term.
Collective agreement-based pension solutions with flexible pensions and very low fees that don't hinder job mobility. Private pension plans often lead to lock-in effects, resulting in reduced returns when transitioning between solutions.
Support for job transitions, providing security when changing employers, fostering both stability, development, and greater labor market mobility. For companies, this facilitates the recruitment of qualified employees.
Unionen's congress and the Unionen as an association will always stand behind and support members seeking collective agreements in their workplaces. Always!
