Form a club

Having your own Unionen club gives you a unique opportunity to make your workplace better for everyone. You will be given all the training you need for your role. This means you won’t just be improving your workplace, you’ll be able to benefit from personal development too.

Make your workplace better for everyone by setting up a club!

Having your own club enables you to change things at your workplace. For example, you will be able to participate in and influence negotiations, gain insight into what the company is planning for the future, and contribute ideas and suggestions for changes and improvements. A club can be formed at any workplace where there are at least 5 union members.

The club’s work includes

  • Running the work of the club between the annual general meetings (AGMs)

  • Talking to members and passing on their views to your employer

  • Pursuing the issues that are important to members

  • Negotiating with the employer, e.g. on pay or reorganisation

  • Providing information about the work of the club, ongoing negotiations and current issues

  • Holding members’ meetings and AGMs with members.

Providing information about membership, and spreading awareness of the benefit of Unionen in the workplace.

Skills development too!

A club isn’t just good for the workplace. It’s also good for you and your personal development. You gain access to free training programmes and seminars that you have the opportunity to attend during paid working hours. As the link between your employer and members, you’ll have an overview of your organisation and its decision-making pathways, and by virtue of your role, you’ll have a real chance to exert influence. Unionen’s trade union advisors and your regional office will support you, ensuring that you are comfortable and secure in your role. It is also a useful experience to have on your CV.

When can you set up a club?

Everyone who is a member of Unionen can be elected as a club board member by the members at the workplace. The election takes place at a members’ meeting. To form a club, there need to be at least five Unionen members at your workplace and the board needs to be elected by your members. Are you and your colleagues interested in having a club at work?

If you are a union member at a small workplace or a self-employed member, you can join a general club. A general club means you are part of a trade union context and can influence Unionen democratically by electing representatives to the Regional Council. More about general clubs.
